The Children of Migrants
The final instalment of the trilogy focuses on the children of parents who were forced to flee their enemies during the First and Second Republics, but especially during the Nazi era. The third and final part of the trilogy about the CHILDREN OF THE 20TH CENTURY shows the dramatic fates of these children and their children, and how their parents’ often misguided paths affected them. The first refugee movements began when people settled down around 12,000 years ago, with the advent of war and hierarchies.
Starting with the emigration movements during Austrofascism and the February and Spanish fighters, through the racist flight and expulsion policies of the National Socialists, the film deals with the traumatic consequences for the second and third generations of refugees. The documentary film thus draws a highly topical arc to the present day. Using examples from several families, the film documents the stories of refugees and the effects of expulsion, flight, diaspora, emigration and immigration, but also of joy and success on the second and third generations.
